RACINE est une série de portraits inspirée d’une photographie de ma grand-mère réalisée en studio en 1925.
Ce projet explore la notion d’identité à travers deux dimensions : la racine, comme fondement personnel et intime, et les racines, ces influences culturelles, familiales et sociales qui façonnent notre construction individuelle. Chaque portrait s’inscrit dans cette double lecture, entre héritage et évolution.
Réalisées en photographie argentique noir et blanc, ces images échappent à une temporalité précise. Elles s’inscrivent à la croisée de l’histoire de la photographie et d’une approche contemporaine du portrait.
L’influence de la photographie de nu et du portrait classique y est perceptible, avec des références à Wilhelm von Gloeden, Jean Agélou ou encore Nadar. Ce projet s’inspire aussi des travaux d’August Sander, Edward Weston, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe et Joel-Peter Witkin, ainsi que de l’esthétique picturale du néoclassicisme et du surréalisme, notamment chez Dalí et Magritte.
À travers RACINE, je cherche à révéler ce qui relie chaque individu à son histoire, en mettant en lumière les liens entre passé et présent, entre mémoire et représentation.

RACINE is a portrait series inspired by a photograph of my grandmother taken in a studio in 1925.
This project explores the concept of identity through two perspectives: the root, as a personal and intimate foundation, and the roots, those cultural, familial, and social influences that shape our individual development. Each portrait is created with this dual interpretation in mind, bridging heritage and evolution.
Shot in black-and-white analog photography, these images exist outside a specific timeframe. They stand at the intersection of photographic history and a contemporary approach to portraiture.
The influence of classical portraiture and nude photography is evident, with references to Wilhelm von Gloeden, Jean Agélou, and Nadar. This project also draws inspiration from the works of August Sander, Edward Weston, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Joel-Peter Witkin, as well as the pictorial aesthetics of Neoclassicism and Surrealism, particularly in the works of Dalí and Magritte.
Through RACINE, I seek to reveal the connections that tie each individual to their history, highlighting the links between past and present, between memory and representation.
